We’re looking for an experienced BI Engineer to build reporting and analytics for our SaaS Learning Management Platform. You’ll be instrumental in advancing our customer-facing Looker reporting, dashboards, and models. You’ll work closely with product and business teams to understand their requirements and ideas, translating them into robust reporting solutions. You’ll resolve issues reported by customers or internal teams, and delve into our data and reports to explain specific data behaviors. The role will also support the Data Engineering Manager in building new data models and our data engineering platform.
Responsibilities
Conduct ad-hoc analyses using SQL and Looker to address customer issues, exploring documentation, JIRA, and code as necessary, then documenting findings in Confluence.
Develop a deep understanding of our data models in Looker and Redshift, with the ability to technically dissect and explain concepts to non-technical users.
Contribute to data modeling and database design with a good understanding of database object relationships.
Add new Looker features and components, such as enhancing the data model with additional fields and relationships, creating new dashboards, and integrating new database tables.
Providing BI insight and expertise to support product and business in expanding and developing reporting concepts and ideas
Support Data Engineering Manager in building and solutioning new data models and architecture
work with customers to understand reporting issues and business needs then collaborate with product on solutions and features
3+ years working experience in analytics or BI.
Advanced skills with modern BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and Superset, with preferred experience in Looker.
Advanced ability to construct and analyze KPIs and measures.
Professional experience working with cubes or data models.
Advanced sql skill with experience in Postgres and Redshift preferred.
Working experience with data serialization and configuration languages such as YAML, LookML, and JSON.
Ability to comfortably work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills with professional experience communicating with coworkers and business partners across different positions and various levels of technical skill.
Strong UI/UX design skills for reporting, with a deep understanding of how users interact with reports and visualizations.
Solid understanding of git, BI and dashboard testing, production release processes, and BI/analytics devops
Ability to work both independently and in a team.
Preferred 1+ years experience in python
Some experience with javascript and typescript an asset
Experience with a cloud provider, preferably AWS
Experience with DBT preferred
Preferred experience with agile practices and tools such as Jira
