Ternary is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager, Full Stack to join our journey to build the best multi-cloud FinOps  in the market to help engineers, finance, and business leaders maximize the business value of the cloud. Global cloud spending is projected to grow at more than 20% annually, reaching over $670 billion in 2024. Enterprises are actively seeking a platform that offers visibility, optimization, and automation to manage their substantial cloud spending and maximize business value. Ternary stands out as a leading innovator in providing such a platform and product, effectively managing our customers’ tens of billions of dollars of cloud spend. Our platform uniquely offers enterprise-grade cost allocation, enhanced AI/ML-powered features such as anomaly detection, forecasting, optimization, and case workflow management to facilitate team collaboration and realize key business value. Join us as we elevate Cloud FinOps to the next level.

As an Engineering Manager at Ternary, you will play a pivotal early role in driving Ternary’s product growth and leading teams building groundbreaking new products 0>1. Reporting directly to our VP of Engineering, you will inspire and mentor team members to perform at their best.

We:

  • Are a passionate team of people who are devoted to building the platform that would have best helped us (engineers, finance analysts, leadership) with cloud financial management (aka FinOps) in our past positions.

  • Have a founding team with deep experience – many of our team members were early employees at the largest of products in the FinOps space and have seen the movie before. We have built an evolved platform with Enterprise product market fit.

  • Have Enterprise customers operating at scale.

  • Are well-funded and with plenty of runway to succeed.

You:

  • Have 8+ years of experience with at least 2+ years of Engineering Management experience – including mentoring and coaching direct reports of all experience levels.

  • Are comfortable with a player/coach role, partnering with a tech lead, where you will spend 50-60% of your time shipping features alongside the team. Your technical depth allows you to develop and mentor others and build credibility with your team.

  • Have a bias for action, and don’t let sensitive topics fester. Interested in promoting these traits within your direct reports and greater org.

  • Have excellent critical thinking and communication skills.

  • Ability to consider business needs and tradeoffs even for deeply technical engineering problems.

  • Prior management of teams across the stack — frontend and backend — is a significant plus.

  • Have experience interacting with customers, senior executives, and business leads.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience maintaining and operating React applications at scale.

  • Experience maintaining and operating REST APIs backed by Node.js and Express.

  • Familiar with creating data visualizations (charts, tables etc.) that reduce highly dimensional cloud billing data to something humans can use to take action.

  • Context on using major cloud providers such as AWS, GCP or Azure.

  • Bonus if you are aware of cloud cost management philosophy (FinOps).

Responsibilities:

  • This person’s main responsibilities include guiding and supporting the team in solving the most impactful projects; understanding and supporting engineers in their career development and growth; and balancing overall project priorities, team morale, technical debt, and customer needs.

  • Lead, hire, and grow a high-caliber team of full-stack, product-focused engineers.

  • Cultivate a culture of blame-free incident analysis and learning.

The estimated base salary for this role ranges from $185,000-$205,000, along with a generous equity component. This range is merely an estimate, and the width of the range reflects a willingness to consider candidates with broad prior seniority. Based on skills, experience, and qualifications, actual compensation may deviate from this range.

Comp and benefits:

  • Company-sponsored travel to interact with colleagues several times a year.

  • We provide generous health benefits, 401(k) plan, and a WFH budget for you to set up your home office.

  • Equity compensation so that all employees can participate in Ternary’s success.

  • The team culture is the best of what you would expect to see at a startup combined with a level of maturity you would see at a much larger company.

At Ternary, we value diversity. We are an equal opportunity employer: we do not discriminate on the basis of racial orientation, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. Ternary is a remote-first company.
