THE ROLE
In this role you will be advising clients, their suppliers and Ashbury advisors, on how to get it right. You will be using your regulatory knowledge and experience to inquisitively question and challenge to ensure Ashbury clients have due diligence and are compliant with the law. You will be accountable for quality, accurate and timely risk-based advice, which enables our customers to launch products competitively and safely.
This role is key to the delivery of our services to our clients. You will be part of the largest team within Ashbury, Advisory Services. The Advisory Services Team is made of both industry and regulatory professionals, with expertise in food and non-food, across manufacturing and retail internationally. On a day-to-day basis you will report into a Team Lead, who is responsible for delivery of services to one or more clients.
You will be responsible for:
- Providing regulatory advice to Ashbury and its clients, to ensure products are legally compliant. The advice should be risk based, commercially competitive and in line with the clients’ policies, where applicable
- Researching and horizon scanning for changes and developments, which effect the regulatory landscape in which Ashbury and our clients operate
- Reviewing and advising changes to Ashbury clients’ policies, considering new regulations, guidance, and codes of practice
- Client customer compliant management, writing responses and managing escalated and/or serious complaints.
- Providing risk-based recommendations to complaints/enforcement challenges for Ashbury clients
- Leading/Supporting a client through a product recall/withdrawal process, producing information to support this process where required
- Liaising with central & local government agencies and industry bodies, i.e., OPSS, FSA/FSAI, Primary Authorities, laboratories, BRC, BSI and ASA etc.
- Delivering training on regulatory & technical topics to Ashbury and its clients
- Developing relationships with client Technical/Regulatory decision makers, influencing, discussing and debating regulatory matters
- Attend client meetings to discuss Regulatory affairs
- Producing expert opinion content on subject matters, as required for marketing and training purposes.
- Presenting expert opinion on subject matters internally and externally
- Keeping up to date with legal requirements and labelling policies and ensuring the dissemination of information within business
- Maintaining and growing your expertise in one or more subject areas.
- Carrying out product information services, such as formulation, regulatory adaptations, specification/pack copy review, artwork review, alignment, and branded product reviews for compliance, as required.

Skillset / Experience
Knowledge
Essential
- Degree level educational qualification in product safety, consumer protection, consumer law or other relevant qualification or experience.
- In-depth regulatory knowledge in product safety, including codes of practice, policies, guidance, and standards
- Excellent understanding of legal requirements, challenges and consumer trends relating to product information
- Maintaining an awareness of relevant changes in the regulatory environment due to new legislation, case law, codes of practice and guidance
- Confident in applying knowledge and experience to advice, tailoring to the client and scenario
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 3 years of experience of working in a regulatory role within industry or trading standards/enforcement or in a related field
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Demonstrable experience of independent working, managing your own workload and time management
- Demonstrable risk-based decision making
- Confident to apply requirements to product information and communicating decisions to clients.
Desirable
- Fluency in one or more other languages
- Demonstrate an understanding of the retail and manufacturing side, including the product launch process
- Demonstrate an awareness of client PLM (Product Lifetime Management) systems and the product information advice we deliver to clients
